eBay Submit Mobile Manifesto to UK Government
eBay has submit a mobile manifesto to the UK Government on how Britain can seize the mobile retail opportunity. The seven areas covered by eBay are:
1. Faster mobile broadband, better coverage
2. Supporting cross-border trade
3. Mobile and local
4. Mobile payments
5. An open mobile internet
6. Optimising for mobile
7. Skilling up for next generation mobile
Verdict research, commissioned by eBay found that mobile shopping will deliver a £4.5bn boost to Britain’s economy by 2016, and a further £13bn by 2021.
Although these are promising figures, Verdict research also warns that UK retailers and the wider economy are missing out on at least £1.3 billion due to consumer frustrations with inconsistent coverage, unreliable connections, slow connection speeds and security concerns. The research also found that if more websites were optimized, 75% of mobile users would spend more through their mobiles.
eBay’s mobile manifesto urges that if mobile commerce is really to get going, Britain needs next generation mobile broadband. Ofcom recently announced that the UK 4G auction has been postponed to the end of 2012.
How else can the UK seize the mobile retail opportunity?
