How Being Active in Social Media can Benefit your Business
While many of our current and prospective clients are aware of Social Media, they often question its relevance and worth to their business. Therefore it was interesting to see a recent study published by Chadwick Martin and Bailey and iModerate Research Technologies which showed that Twitter and Facebook users are much more inclined to buy from or use the services of a brand which they follow or are fans of.
The study of over 1500 consumers found that 60% of Facebook fans and 79% of Twitter followers are more likely to recommend the brands they follow and 51% of Facebook fans and 67% of Twitter followers are more likely to buy the brands they follow or are a fan of.
With Facebook currently boasting 400 million users there is obviously a huge potential market here. While it makes sense that consumers are more likely to follow companies they like and are aligned with, the viral nature of online opinions mean that a socially active company should be picking up followers and fans regularly- creating a large pool of potential customers.
The study also shows that there is a growing opinion that if a company is not involved in social media they are ‘out of touch’. The relevancy of this will obviously depend upon your target market, but for most this is certainly not how they would like to be perceived.
I’m sure these stats are likely to encourage more companies to start interacting in social media, which is only a good thing. However what we always advise is really think it through;
- Why are you using Social Media?
- What do you have to offer your followers/fans?
- Do the medium and message put across align with your brand?
There is no point in embarking a social media campaign just for the sake of it, but a well thought out and planned campaign can really make a difference to your brand - as this study has shown!
